The Janzens

The Janzen Family has been with Tartan Hill since 2003.  Maggie Janzen shows saddle seat equitation with the support of her parents Roy and Liz and brother David.  The Janzens started in Morgans at Morningside Stable under the direction of Mary Jean Irvine.  Maggie and Liz took lessons, participated in local shows and were active in local 4H.

When the decision was made to pursue new challenges, Maggie started taking lessons with Tartan Hill and as they say, the rest is history.  Tartan Hill helped the Janzens purchase their first horse in the fall of 2003.  Sugarlane Jamestown "James" is now an important part of the family and a wonderful breed ambassador.  Both Roy and Liz have shown him on the local level and he has participated in numerous clinics and demonstrations.  Maggie and James have been very successful in equitation on the regional and national level.  At the 2005 World Championships, Maggie placed in the top 10 in the AMHA Gold Medal Finals.  At the 2006 World Championships, Maggie took 8th in the Classic Equitation 14-17 and 9th in the Classic World Championship.

Look for Maggie and James to continue their success in 2007 in Classic Saddle Seat Equitation.

The Annises and Amundsons

The Annis and Amundson families have been showing with Tartan Hill since 2005, but their love affair with Morgans started over 25 years ago and now transcends three generations.

Kathy and Bruce Annis, along with their daughter Debbie began their horse journey at Indian Summer Farm, where they took lessons and eventually purchased their first Morgan, Patron’s Harmony.  Debbie and Pete competed at the local and regional level in hunt seat and often found themselves in the winner’s circle.  Always looking for a challenge, the Annis family purchased Ethan’s Prime Time for the saddle seat division and surrounded themselves further with everything horses.

As it has to happen, horse crazy little girls grow up and in 1990, Debbie married Thomas Amundson and three beautiful daughters, Samantha, Haley and Hunter, followed soon after.  Time was limited.  Horses had to take a back seat to the needs of a growing family and Pete and PT were sold.  But as any Morgan lover will tell you, being horseless can only last so long.  A few years later, looking again for a challenge, Hampshire Formal Attire was purchased as a two year old and Debbie began fulfilling a life long dream to train her own horse.  The Amundson girls were born with the horse gene and with the family again involved with horses, another generation of Morgan lovers began riding.

More horses were purchased to accommodate more riders and new teams were developed.  It soon became apparent that the girls were talented and in Deb’s words, the Amundsons began the “search for just the right atmosphere for both horses and daughters.”  Their search landed them at Tartan Hill and they have never looked back.

In 2005, Sami and TJ, who was trained by Deb, were 3rd in World Championship Hunt Seat Pleasure14 & 15 yr olds and 3rd in Grand National Hunt Seat Equitation 14 yr olds.  In 2006, TJ was Reserve National Champion Amatuer Hunter 15.2 and Over with Deb.  With Sami, he took a 5th in Grand National Hunt Seat Pleasure 15 yr olds and 4th in World Championship Hunt Seat Pleasure 14 & 15 yr olds.

Look for the Amundsons to continue their success in 2007.  Tom is currently serving a tour in Iraq with the 1157th transportation company.  We will be wearing a yellow ribbon to remember our soldiers overseas.
